Some of you on LJ3 may have noticed problems with MovableType yesterday. Some of the modules didn't get moved over from the old server. They've all been reinstalled, including ImageMagick, so all should be well.

There have been some sporatic Apache bellyflops however, were hunting down the issue. If you notice your site isn't up please email me and let me know.

The upgrade has been completed! The only thing left to do is remove the transfer drive, which should only cause a brief downtime which we'll schedule late at night this weekend. Thanks for putting up with the downtime... hopefully the new security and features will have been worth it!

This will be performed on LJ2 sometime soon.

DOH once again. They started the dump too late last night so it wasn't finished by 9am this morning, so we told them to hold off until tonight so as not to interrupt service during waking hours. Soo.... one more time... hopefully. Tonight at midnight LJ3 will be going down for up to 10 hours while all of the server data is backed up, Red Hat Enterprise is installed, and the data is restored. Sorry for the downtime folks... but we'll have a more hack proof, solid, and featured server after the upgrade.

Sigh. Well, Plesk 5 install went smooth and there are new features because of it. Last night we dumped all the old data and had the datacenter swap drives to a drive with Red Hat Enterprise Edition on it, then they restored from the dump... However, there was a hiccup of some kind and not all of the site data was transfered over.

SOOO... We had to put the old hard drive back online. So we are still as of now running the old version of RH. We'll try again tonight to upgrade to RHE.

NOTE : no data should have been lost as we kept everything on ye olde old hard drive. To revert to the old data we simply had to swap the hard disks, and everything was just like it was yesterday, as if we never tried to upgrade to RHE.

Tonight between 2am-6am EST we are gonna try again to upgrade to Red Hat Enterprise.

Also, loren will be telling you soon about the new features you're going to be able to take advantage of because of all this hassle...

LJ3 news : New hard drive installed, double the space. Plesk 5 installed.

Thursday night we will be upgrading to a newer version of Red Hat, as Red Hat is phasing out support for our current version at the end of the year, which means no new patches, which is bad.

Should take place sometime between 12am-4am EST.

LJ2 is doing well with it's own new hard drive and doubled RAM which was installed a couple of months back.

We may double the RAM in LJ3 while we are doing all of this.
