Okeydokee folks... Wilwheaton.net has been moved to the new server... and guess what?! No crashes since! I think we are all in the clear. We SERIOUSLY appreciate everyone sticking with us through this insanity, and for being cool about everything. We learned a ton, so this shouldn't happen again.

In other news, I will be rewriting the FAQ and signup stuff to incorporate instructions for the new server. It uses a different directory structure and blog setup on it is a little different... namely... you have to place CGI's in the cgi-bin directory, as we aren't installing a CGI-Wrapper on the new server. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Josh or I. We'll get back to you asap.

Funtimes. The first few Movable Type/Grey Matter users have been moved over. A few of you, we've noticed have some problems with search engines repeatedly spidering your domains, which has helped cause problems. We have denied access to those search engines. This has helped.

We had one brief outage since we instituted these changes. This is an improvement, we were having server slowdowns every night at 5 AM... coincidentally this is the same time that a particular search engine would swoop down on one customers site, trying to index ALL of her pages at once. Once we get Wil's site moved, the server should go back to normal. Unfortunately, he is filming a movie right now and hard to reach. I believe Loren is considering moving WWDN himself tonight, if we can't get in touch with Wil by then. I'll keep everyone informed here.

We've decided to, and have begun, moving all CGI and MySQl users to the new server. We have tracked the problems down to a combination of Movable Type and Grey Matter, mixed in with a few sites being MERCILESSLY index by spiders (read: search engines).

We apologize for the inconvenience.

In case you haven't noticed.. the server has developed a fun little tick. . . All http traffic has been locking up at about the same time in the morning for the past 5 days or so forcing us to reboot the server. We're doing everything in our power to prevent this from happening again. This will more than likely include one or all of the following: moving all CGI and MySQL users to another server, bringing the server down for a few hours and reinstalling the OS, or moving everyone over to the new server. If anyone has any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me about it at loren@skivvies.com. Thanks for sticking with us folks. Believe me, we understand how frustrating this can be.

Okay, everyone's (except Wil Wheaton) stats should be back up. If they are not, contact us.

We have purchased a second server and our in the process of moving Wil, Underachievers and a few other major sites to it. After this occurs, all server problems should cease. Thanks for your patience, guys!
