New logjamming site

November 27, 2006 2:48 am by josh

We are rolling out both our new site (you’re looking at it), which is based on WordPress, and our new support ticketing system – you can check that out by clicking “support” in the sidebar over there.

Hopefully this will make the whole “logjamming experience” a lot nicer for you guys!

Open source imaging

So by all accounts, i’m most assuredly the most obstinate of us over here at logjamming. Sometimes it’s my choice of disks in servers (seagate all the way. after dealing with another maxtor failure today i vow… never again) or the fact that i am vehement in my use of linux for my desktop, in the end, i’m just that brand of pain in the ass.

Which brings me to my rant of the day…. open source imaging.

For quite some time this has been a sore spot. Some times it’s josh & his “there’s no pantone in GiMP rant”. Other times it’s the annoyance of needing to convert file types. Well, today i found my holy grail for the latter.

pstoedit

This utility rules hard. Recently one of the designers we work with passed me files in eps and illustrator format. The tricky part, is that illustrator didn’t close some of the strokes properly and i was left with a version of “mr log” with half his mouth chopped off every time i rendered it to bitmap. Pstoedit to the rescue. Fixing this was as simple as typing the following command:

pstoedit -f plot-svg text_logo.ai text_logo2.svg

That did the job quite nicely, except that the g’s o’s and a’s looked jacked up. It didn’t do the knockouts in the center of the letters. This was easily fixed by adding the “-ssp” flag to the command leaving me with:

pstoedit -f plot-svg -ssp text_logo.ai text_logo2.svg

Try it out. Works like a charm.

Outage Thursday morning (and other updates!)

November 15, 2006 12:32 am by brian

Hey folks!

Just getting in touch to keep you abreast of whats going on at Logjamming. First and foremost, we’re doing a power upgrade on our equipment Thursday morning. The outage window will be from 12:30am until 2:30am with the bulk of that work being done around 1:00am. That means your site is going to go down for a few minutes (we’re sorry, really!) But any timeouts, etc should be sporadic and not last too long.

In other news, our new support system is almost online. Josh & I have been workinig diligently on the new ticketing system. Progress can be seen at http://support.logjamming.com. Come monday of next week it should be online and we’re going to be using that little bad boy for all of our support jammers.

Our VPS service is really taking off! Thanks to everyone who’s signed up. It’s nice to roll out a new service and have people so stoked on it. Want more information on it, just ask, we’ll talk your ear off!

Finally, next month we’re going to be having a meet up in DC. Beers (and soda!) are on us! Come out and meet the folks who make your site work. Details to be emailed & posted soon!
